Omar Marmoush responds to Borussia Dortmund star’s message amid Man City reunion

Manchester City’s players have already seen some familiar faces on their trip to the USA for the Club World Cup.

Pep Guardiola‘s side will be keen to go all the way in FIFA’s revamped tournament after going without silverware in 2024–25, as Man City underwent their first trophyless campaign since the 2016-17 season.

The Club World Cup is already underway across the Atlantic with City one of the last teams to feature, and their efforts in the tournament will begin against Tunisian side Wydad AC in Philadelphia on 18 June.

The likes of James McAtee and Jack Grealish being left out of City’s squad for the Club World Cup has heightened speculation over their futures, but the 27-strong side which has travelled is still full of quality.

Marmoush reacts to ex-Man City star’s message

After their opening match against Wydad AC on Wednesday, City will face Al Ain and Juventus in Group G, and could well face Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-finals if both sides qualify for the last eight.

As is the case for several sides in the Club World Cup, Dortmund and City’s training bases are in Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and January signing Omar Marmoush was able to meet up with a former team-mate.

Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha has his own connection to Man City and spent 14 years at the Etihad Stadium between 2007 and 2021, when he left for Wolfsburg and played with Marmoush until 2023.

Nmecha shared a photo on his Instagram story (16 June) alongside Marmoush in Fort Lauderdale, and included a white ‘love heart’ emoji in a message which was subsequently shared on the Egyptian’s story.

Club World Cup the perfect audition for new-look Man City

The Nmecha connection to Man City will continue in the Premier League next season after Felix’s brother Lukas signed for newly-promoted Leeds United on a free transfer, and could play against City next term.

City have already made plenty of their own additions in the summer window, with new signings Rayan Ait-Nouri, Marcus Bettinelli, Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders all included in their Club World Cup squad.

Marmoush made an instant impact at the Etihad after his £59million move from Eintracht Frankfurt in January, and Guardiola will hope the Club World Cup gives his new quartet a chance to do the same.
