Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher has slammed Leeds United defender Gaetano Berardi for his part in the incident against Bristol City on the weekend.
Matchday official Oliver Langford showed the 29-year-old a straight red card following a headbutt on Bristol City striker Matty Taylor in the second-half.
Taylor was also sent off for his part in the confrontation which sparked fury not only amongst the players but also the managers on the touchline.
When asked about the incident on Sky Sports News’ Monday morning Sky Sports Daily show (October 23, 11:00am), Gallagher was very critical of Berardi but he admitted that he failed to understand why Taylor was also given his marching orders.
“All I can presume is the referee feels that the tackle that was made initially was what got him sent off,” he replied when questioned about Taylor’s dismissal.
“Looking at that, without doubt, the Leeds player is well out of order.
“What Matt Taylor does is not picked up on the camera.”
Thomas Christiansen’s side have now received two red cards in the Championship this season after Liam Cooper was dismissed in the 3-1 defeat at the hands of Cardiff City last month.
The sending off had no bearing on the result as the Yorkshire club secured an impressive 3-0 win at Ashton Gate thanks to Pierre-Michel Lasogga and a brace from Samu Saiz.
The Whites picked up their first win in four league matches and they now find themselves just four points adrift of the automatic promotion places.
In other Leeds United news, Andrea Radrizzani has slammed the Whites fans after the win against Bristol City.
