Ossie Ardiles claims that Tottenham were “very impressive” on Wednesday night as they defeated Southampton at St Mary’s.
Spurs recorded a comfortable 4-1 away win in the Premier League and are now just one point behind rivals Arsenal in fourth.
Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son and a Dele Alli brace cancelled out an early goal from Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk to secure the three points.
The north London club have now won their last three consecutive games in the Premier League and face Watford away on New Year’s Day in their next match.
Former Spurs star Ardiles was delighted with the team’s performance on Wednesday and feels they are edging back towards their best.
“Very impressive (and easy at the end) performance for Spurs after going 1-0 down. Started to play at our best. Wonderful 2016,” Ardiles wrote on his personal Twitter account.

Spurs are focusing on finishing inside the top four this season and securing a Champions League spot.
However, the north London club face tough competition from the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City and United, but sent out a strong message with a comfortable win at Southampton.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side are now beginning to recapture the form they showed last campaign as they earned a third-placed finish.
Spurs are still considered an outside shot for the title and would need to bridge a 10 points gap to leaders Chelsea, who they face at White Hart Lane on 4 January.
In other Tottenham news, Rafael van der Vaart has posted a Twitter challenge to the club’s midfielders.
