‘Outstanding’ – Exclusive: Alan Hutton raves over Rangers star after ‘Edgy’ performances
Alan Hutton admits he has been blown away by Connor Goldson’s recent form at Rangers after a couple of “edgy” performances in the past.
The former Gers defender and lifelong fan at Ibrox, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says the centre-back has not always filled him with confidence at the heart of the defence.
Goldson has been a mainstay for Steven Gerrard across all competitions this season with 36 appearances, the most of any player among the first-team squad.
After admitting things have not all been smooth sailing for the 27-year-old, Hutton says that he was blown away with what he saw from the powerhouse in the club’s 2-1 win over Celtic.
“I must admit, they’ve had moments throughout the season where it’s been a little bit edgy with himself,” Hutton told Football Insider.
“I think overall he’s done very well, against Celtic I think he was outstanding. It was a massive test for him to play against Odsonne Edouard who, as we know, is a magnificent player.
“Especially at Parkhead, where the fans are on you, it can be a real difficult place to play, so I thought he was outstanding, he really lead from the back.”
Goldson has established himself as a mainstay under Gerrard since joining from Brighton back in 2017, with 90 appearances already under his belt at Ibrox.
He has scored four goals this terms for the Light Blues, the same amount he managed during his first season at the club.
