Celtic ‘centenary double’ winning hero Anton Rogan has named James Forrest as the Hoops player who has impressed him most this season.
Rogan, who was a key man for the Bhoys when they won the league and cup double in 1988, has been hugely impressed with the 26-year-old first teamer this season, who has scored 18 goals and enjoyed the best form of his career so far.
“Who is my favourite player just now? At the minute, I think the lad Forrest” Rogan said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
“This season in any game I’ve watched he’s been outstanding. He’s quick, he’s direct…he has been brilliant.”
Forrest will be hoping to end his season in style, by helping the Hoops win a second successive domestic treble when they take on Motherwell in Saturday’s Scottish Cup Final.
Football Insider verdict
Forrest has been superb this season for the Bhoys, and it has been by far the best season of his career so far. His 18 goals is a remarkable feat when you consider that he had never reached double figures in a season before, and in the first-half of the season before the winter break he was exceptional and the best player in Scotland. He looked a certainty to be named as player of the year but was unfortunate that a dip in form coincided with Scott Brown’s fine run of performances which lead to the Hoops captain picking up all the individual awards this season. That won’t upset Forrest though, who will be looking to end the season in style in the Scottish Cup Final, and he has an excellent record for the Bhoys in cup finals, having previously scored in three league cup final victories, and you wouldn’t bet against him adding to that tally against the Steelmen on Saturday.
