Paul Merson makes huge claim about Tottenham player, suggests tactical shift for his manager

Former Arsenal player Paul Merson has boldly claimed that Tottenham’s Harry Kane is a “world-class” striker before England’s clash with Slovenia on Thursday night.
Kane, 24, will lead the England team out on to the Wembley pitch as captain as he looks to help the Three Lions secure their spot in the 2018 World Cup in Russia next summer with a win.
It always bring up a huge debate when singling out a player as being world-class and it is often a topic discussed by Match of the Day pundits whenever someone like Sergio Aguero, Kevin De Bruyne, or more recently Kane hit a purple patch of form.
Merson has no doubts about the striker’s ability though and is expecting him to provide the goods on Thursday in the England shirt, while also suggesting that his manager Gareth Southgate should also switch up his tactics for the match to get the most out of his team.
“I would like to see them play three at the back,” he said, as quoted by Sky Sports. “Firstly, I don’t think we are great in defence and secondly, that system allows us more players in midfield, which helps us keep hold of the ball.

“When we’ve been to tournaments in the past we haven’t been able to keep possession, but a 3-5-2 or a 3-4-2-1 would give us more options in the middle of the park. It also gives us a solid base.
“We don’t have to go out and entertain we just have to make sure we are hard to beat because we have a world-class centre-forward in Harry Kane.”
Kane has been in scintillating form for Spurs in recent weeks, scoring 11 goals across all competitions in September, including seven in his previous three outings against West Ham, APOEL Nicosia and Huddersfield.
He will now have his sights set on captaining England against the Slovenians on Thursday, knowing that three points will secure top spot in their qualifying group and ultimately book their place in Russia next year.
