Paul Merson predict Liverpool v Man City, picks clear winner

By Dominic Toner

Paul Merson has predicted Liverpool to beat Manchester City comfortably in their Premier League meeting on Saturday.

The Merseyside club host title rivals Man City at Anfield as second meets third in the league table.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are currently the closest challengers to leaders Chelsea and will be hoping to bridge the six point gap to them, but Man City are only seven points adrift of the table toppers.

The Reds will be in good confidence after winning their last three games in the league, including a 4-1 victory over Stoke on Tuesday.

Sky Sports pundit Merson feels that Klopp’s team will be too strong at home and record a comfortable win against Man City.

“I don’t see how (Man City) they can live with Liverpool’s attack,” Merson wrote on the Sky Sports website. “I think Liverpool will win quite comfortably.

“Liverpool go out and attack and they can score bundles of goals. The defenders at City aren’t good enough – he’s left out John Stones and the others haven’t been as bad. For me, I don’t see anything but a Liverpool win.”

Merson has tipped Liverpool to record a 3-1 victory and keep their title pursuit going.

Klopp will be without two key players Philippe Coutinho and Joel Matip for Saturday’s match, but have coped well without the pair in recent games.

The Merseyside club have continued to be impressive in front of goal and have now scored 45 goals in the opening 18 league games.

Man City have had their difficulties in defence this campaign under Pep Guardiola and many people feel that Liverpool’s attacking threat could prove too much.

In other Liverpool news, this Sky Sports pundit claims the club’s reported target would be a great acquisition.
