Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has said that he expects Tottenham to secure a convincing win over Crystal Palace in their league clash on Sunday.
The Eagles make the short trip across London to Wembley sitting at the foot of the table after a disappointing start to the season, which has seen them rack up just four points in 10 games, another four points adrift of 17th place and safety from relegation.
They come into the clash off the back of a 2-2 draw against West Ham at Selhurst Park, with Wilfried Zaha netting a late equaliser for Roy Hodgson’s side.
Spurs meanwhile are hoping to continue their charge for the Premier League title, having been involved for two successive seasons, but already find themselves eight points behind league leaders Manchester City, who are yet to taste defeat in the top flight.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men secured a convincing 3-1 win over Spanish giants Real Madrid on Wednesday, and Merson believes that they will continue their fine form on Sunday.
Predicting an emphatic 3-0 win for Spurs, he told Sky Sports on their website: “Palace were fortunate the other day.
“They were 2-0 down and I know Roy [Hodgson] said they deserved to get a draw in the end, but we can all play when we are 2-0 down when there’s nothing to lose.
“You have to do that when it is still goalless and I expect Tottenham to carry on with the confidence they have been playing with.
“They have just beaten the European champions, so I will go 3-0 Tottenham.”
Tottenham’s last match against Palace came back in in April 2017, when a goal from Christian Eriksen secured the three points at Selhurst Park, while the Eagles were beaten 1-0 at White Hart Lane in August 2016 thanks to a late Victor Wanyama strike.
In other Tottenham news, fans were left fuming at the performance of one man in their Champions League win over Real Madrid.
