Paul Merson predicts Everton v Swansea clash

By Dominic Toner

Paul Merson has predicted Everton to suffer a defeat when they travel to Swansea on Saturday in the Premier League.

The Toffees go to the Liberty Stadium for their penultimate away match in the league and will be looking to improve their form on the road.

The Merseyside club are without a victory in their last six away games and have picked up the large share of their points this season at Goodison Park.

Everton are seventh-placed in the league table and are guaranteed to be back in European football in the next campaign.

Meanwhile, Swansea are battling relegation and are currently in the drop zone.

The Swans have just three games remaining to make up the two-point gap to 17th-placed Hull and their six-year stay in the Premier League is in danger of ending.

Merson has tipped Swansea to continue their relegation fight by beating Everton 2-1 at the weekend.

“They (Swansea) face a difficult task against Everton, who are difficult to beat on the road,” Merson told Sky Sports. “They may have got rolled by Chelsea but in recent weeks they’ve not played well and still come away with 0-0 draws against Middlesbrough and West Ham.

“Even when they play badly in these types of games they are difficult to beat. However, I’m just going to side with Swansea, who will keep the battle for survival going. And if they can win this game they will be the team I fancy to stay up.”

The two teams played out a 1-1 draw in the previous meeting this season, but their is a considerable gap in their league positions.

Everton are trying to cement their spot at the top-end of the table and could still secure a top-six finish.

Manager Ronald Koeman has enjoyed a good first season with the Toffees and will be looking to end it strongly.

In other Everton news, two senior players have been ruled out of the Swansea clash.
