Paul Merson predicts goals in West Ham v Sunderland

By Tony Hughes

Paul Merson has predicted an easy win for West Ham in their Saturday afternoon game against struggling Sunderland in the Premier League.

After beating Crystal Palace 1-0 last weekend, Merson thinks the Hammers will record back-to-back wins with a routine 3-0 victory over Sunderland.

Talking on the Sky Sports website, Merson said, “Sunderland are struggling, and West Ham had a really good result at Palace and played superbly in the first half.

“I can’t see anything different here. It’s the perfect game for them to get back-to-back wins for the first time this season, with Sunderland bottom of the league without winning a game. But West Ham have to get through the first 20 minutes positively.

“Sunderland have had a lot of injuries to be fair, you’ve got to feel sorry for them, they haven’t had a lot of luck so far.”

West Ham started the new season in positive spirits after finishing seventh in the Premier League last campaign and completing their move to the Olympic Stadium.

However, this season has been a disaster so far after getting dumped out of the Europa League for the second year running by Romanian minnows Astra Giurgiu.

They haven’t fared much better in the Premier League with just two wins from eight, and seven points.

However, they beat Crystal Palace last Saturday and back-to-back wins could give them valuable momentum ahead of more key players returning from injury.

In other West Ham news, fans reacted on Twitter after their record signing returned to training after a long-term injury.
