Paul Merson predicts Liverpool v Crystal Palace

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has predicted Liverpool to run out a convincing win over Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.
The Merseyside giants are currently preparing to host the south east London club at Anfield which will see 9th take on 19th at this early stage.
The last time the two clubs met competitively in April two goals from former striker Christian Benteke ensured that Palace ran out 2-1 winners over the Reds with Philippe Coutinho scoring their single effort.
Now, Merson believes the result will be much more different this time around, predicting a 3-1 for Liverpool, stating that both have defensive concerns.
“Both teams have defensive concerns but more so Crystal Palace. I know Liverpool let in three at Watford but they didn’t lose and then they won in midweek, which was a great result. Palace have done well at Anfield over the last few years but they are not good enough defensively,” told Merson to the Sky Sports website.

“You don’t want to start a season with a home defeat like they did against Huddersfield. It puts them up against it. If you lose this game then you are behind the eight ball already and I don’t think they have been great in the transfer market.
“The manager is asking them to play out from the back and when you do that with a lack of a confidence it’s a recipe for disaster.”
Liverpool started their Premier League campaign with a 3-3 draw against Watford with many questions asked over their defence, which was already considered a weakness last season.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace started with a humiliating 3-0 defeat against newly promoted Huddersfield and they will be eager to return to winning ways.
However, a win for the Reds could see them take the top spot off rivals Manchester United depending on results elsewhere and Jurgen Klopp’s side will be keen to get their first league victory on the board.
In other Liverpool news, the Reds have been installed as favourites to sign this PSG attacker.
