Paul Merson predicts Liverpool v Manchester City

By Dominic Toner

Paul Merson has predicted Liverpool to suffer a defeat when they travel to Manchester City on Sunday.

The Reds face Man City in the Premier League at the weekend and will be hoping to consolidate their spot in the top four.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have recorded consecutive victories over Burnley and Arsenal in their last two games, meaning they should be in good spirits.

Meanwhile, Man City were dumped out of the Champions League by Monaco on Wednesday and will now turn their attention back to their domestic form.

They are third-placed in the league table and just a point above Liverpool in fourth, but have played a game less.

Sky Sports pundit Merson expects their to be goals in the league fixture and has just shaded with the hosts to win 3-2.

“I remember last year Liverpool went there and dismantled them and ripped them apart,” Merson told Sky Sports. “And I think City’s Champions League exit at the hands of Monaco on Wednesday was a major blow, but I cannot see anything other than goals in this game.

“I think it will be a very high-scoring football match and I am going to go 3-2 to Man City – I am just going to go with home advantage here, that is all I can really go on.”

Liverpool are involved in a tough battle to obtain a Champions League place this season, with Arsenal and Manchester United chasing them down.

The Merseyside club have managed to recover from a poor start to 2017 and are now vying for a return to Europe’s elite competition.

The Reds earned a 1-o victory over Man City in the previous meeting this season, with Georginio Wijnaldum scoring the only goal of the game at Anfield.

However, Merson has backed Man City to get their revenge at the weekend as two of the divison’s highest scorers clash.

In other Liverpool news, the club’s supporters reacted on Twitter after Ben Woodburn earned an international call-up.
