Former Arsenal attacker Paul Merson believes that Tottenham will continue their winning ways by breezing past Southampton when the two sides meet at Wembley on Boxing Day.
The Sky Sports pundit has predicted a convincing 3-0 win for Mauricio Pochettino’s side against the Saints, who are set to be without some key players.
Charlie Austin is set to be suspended after being charged for violent conduct in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Huddersfield while Virgil van Dijk is also expected to miss out.
That key pair missing for Southampton has led to Merson to predict a heavy win for the North London side on Tuesday.
“They absolutely ripped Burnley apart, considering what Burnley have been doing and considering they had not won away from home since September, it was a big result. Southampton have gone – no Charlie Austin, no Virgil van Dijk, so I cannot see anything other than a Tottenham win,” he said on the Sky Sports website.
Spurs moved up to fifth in the Premier League table by beating in-form Burnely 3-0 at Turf Moor on Saturday evening.
Harry Kane bagged a hat-trick to move level on Alan Shearer’s record number of Premier League goals in a calendar year.
If Merson’s prediction is anything to go by, Kane could be expected to surpass the Newcastle legend’s tally with a heavy win against Southampton.
History is certainly on Tottenham’s side too as they have won all but two of their last 10 meetings with the south coast club.
