Paul Pogba lambasted after new Man United reveal - pundit

Paul Pogba has “let himself down” after criticising Man United over a new contract offer, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 29-year-old did not deserve to stay at Old Trafford after a “woeful” second spell at the club.

Speaking in an upcoming documentary, ‘The Pogumentary, as quoted by the Guardian (16 June), Pogba said he wants to “show Manchester that they made a mistake in waiting to give me a contract.”

The documentary reportedly reveals United made two new contract offers to the midfielder, who will leave Old Trafford on a free this summer.

However, speaking to agent Mino Raiola, Pogba criticised the terms offered, stating: “They’re bluffing. How can you tell a player you absolutely want him and offer him nothing?”

Whelan slammed the France international’s attitude and insisted he did nothing to warrant a new deal.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “The kid’s dreaming. If you ask 100 pundits out there or journalists if he deserves another contract, if 100 don’t come back and say no, he doesn’t deserve another contract, something’s wrong.

“He’s been woeful at Man United. We’ve seen glimpses and I’m saying glimpses. His reel of good things he’s done would probably last half an hour in the six years he’s been there. That is how bad it’s been for him. That is how bad a signing it has been for Man United.

“It’s just not worked. I do believe that Man United would have been daft to offer him another contract. I don’t think he has done enough to deserve that contract. It’s better that the player leaves.

“If he wants to go and prove something, he should have done it at Manchester United. The fans deserve that, quite frankly. He should have had that kind of opinion straightaway in his mind.

“He should have gone out there and been proving this, what he is saying right now, to the Man United fans and the new managers that have been in the club over the time he has been there. I think he has let the club down, quite frankly, and himself.”
