Paul Pogba: Pundit baffled after Rangnick starts Man United star who I ‘thought was never playing for them again’

Frank McAvennie has suggested Paul Pogba is playing for a move away from Man United after his return to the side.

The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, was surprised to see the midfielder has been allowed to play for the club.

Pogba, 28, scored as Man United drew 1-1 with relegation-threatened Burnley on Tuesday (8 February).

This was his first league appearance for the club since 24 October after suffering with a hamstring injury.

The Frenchman is out of contract in the summer and as quoted by Sky Sports on 11 December, Ralf Rangnick admitted he will not try to change Pogba’s mind if he doesn’t want to stay at Man United on a long-term basis.

Calling back to Rangnick’s comments, McAvennie has suggested Pogba is now trying to prove himself ahead of a possible summer move.

“I saw it was Pogba who scored for Man United,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Really? What’s going on there? I thought he was never going to play for them again.

“The manager said he wasn’t going to change his mind, so why’s he playing?

“There is all of this stuff about a contract offer or him maybe going to PSG.

“How can you play someone who won’t be here next season or someone who isn’t committed to the club?

“I mean, fair play, he scored. I just didn’t see a way back in for him. On his day, the boy is brilliant.

“He just doesn’t do it enough. Maybe he’s playing for a move?”

Pogba has made 15 appearances for Man United this season.

The Red Devils are next in action against Southampton on Saturday (12 Saturday).
