Paul Robinson has claimed that Matheus Pereira will be a “huge signing” for West Brom.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Jason Jones, the former England international argued that the Brazilian winger was a key component in the Baggies securing promotion to the Premier League this summer.
After a lengthy wait, Albion finally confirmed the permanent arrival of the 24-year-old from Sporting Lisbon on Monday.
Pereira had been expected to join for some time after triggering an appearance clause in his loan deal at The Hawthorns last season.
And Robinson has reiterated just how delighted supporters will be to have finally landed their man after a nervous period of uncertainty.
Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “He is a huge signing for them.
“When they had their wobble last season, so to speak, it coincided with him not being in the team when he was injured.
“He was very much key to what they did last year, and I think for them to sign him on a permanent is a great signing. It’s one that West Brom fans will be very excited about.
“He has been a real key player for them ever since he arrived.”
Pereira proved to be an instant hit during his debut season in England, registering eight goals and 20 assists in 42 Championship appearances.
West Brom were expected to pay a fee of around £9 million to officially complete the deal.
In other West Brom news, Leeds have set their sights on beating the Baggies to this midfielder now available for £1.5m.
