Pep Guardiola exit u-turn mooted as Richard Keys reacts to major Man City news

Pep Guardiola could yet decide to leave Man City after the club were defeated over financial regulations, Richard Keys has suggested.

The Premier League has successfully pushed through changes to its associated party transaction (APT) rules, with a significant majority of 16 clubs voting in favour during a recent meeting in London.

However, the decision was not unanimous, with Man City, Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and Nottingham Forest opposing the alterations according to The Athletic.

Man City has been at the centre of the APT debate following an independent tribunal’s ruling earlier this year that deemed parts of the regulations unlawful. The club has since been embroiled in legal back-and-forth with the Premier League, with City arguing that no vote should occur until the tribunal provides full guidance on the matter.

City’s staunch resistance has fuelled speculation about Guardiola’s long-term future at the club. Senior football anchor Keys of beIN SPORTS commented on the developments, hinting at a potential u-turn in the Catalan’s stance.

Keys reacted to the APT news, posting: “Are we convinced Guardiola is staying?”.

This comes after Football Insider revealed that Pep Guardiola was to put pen to paper on a new one-year extension running until the summer of 2026.

The Spanish manager’s tenure at Manchester City has been nothing short of transformative. Since arriving in 2016, he has redefined the club’s identity, turning them into a powerhouse that dominates English and European football.

With six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups, and a historic Champions League triumph under his belt, his influence is unparalleled.

Guardiola’s tactical genius and ability to innovate have been crucial in maintaining dominance at the Etihad in a competitive league.

Premier League CEO Richard Masters
Premier League CEO Richard Masters is on the opposite side of regulatory disputes with Man City.

His presence attracts elite players, fosters a winning mentality, and ensures continuity in a time of financial scrutiny and regulatory challenges like the APT rule amendments. Losing him now could disrupt the system he painstakingly built and derail their momentum.

Moreover, Guardiola’s long-term presence offers stability. With City facing over 100 Premier League charges regarding financial misconduct, which they deny, his leadership would help the club navigate this uncertain period.

A departure would not only weaken their tactical framework but could also shake the confidence of players and fans alike.
