Perez axed in Benitez 4-2-3-1: Newcastle best possible XI to face Wolves

Rafa Benitez should continue Newcastle’s charge in the Championship by freshening up his first XI that thumped Queens Park Rangers 6-0 on Tuesday evening.

It’s tough to repeat the same result for Saturday’s home clash against Wolves, but the Magpies have a number of options to choose from which can cause Walter Zenga’s side a threat.

Despite scoring in midweek, Ayoze Perez should make way for the club’s top scorer Dwight Gayle, so the summer signing can establish what could be a formable partnership with Aleksandar Mitrović up front.

Gayle has scored four goals this term, but Mitrović’s ability to hold up the ball and knock the ball forward will complement his teammate’s movement and strength at running into space.

Christian Atsu should replace Yoan Gouffran on the left, with the Ghana international’s speed and directness a threat to an under pressure Wolves defence.

Zenga’s side have conceded six goals in their last three games, so Matt Ritchie should operate on the right-side of midfield with the in-form Jonjo Shelvey and Mo Diame in midfield.

Newcastle have not conceded a goal in their last four Championship games, so Benitez should go with his strongest centre-back pairing of Grant Hanley and Jamaal Lascelles.

DeAndre Yedlin should start at right-back, as the American should play in his natural position ahead of the versatile Varun Anita who started in his sides previous win.

Fan-favourite Paul Dummett should continue at left-back, as his energy and hard work will allow Atsu to operate freely on the left-hand side.
