Gabriel Agbonlahor has insisted Aston Villa will not look to sign any wingers this month because Dean Smith’s current options are “perfect”.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer delivered his verdict after it was reported the club are eyeing a move for Bournemouth wide man David Brooks.
The Mirror report the 23-year-old is Smith’s top transfer target in the January window.
The Wales international has been a regular for the Cherries this season after recovering from an ankle injury at the back end of the last campaign.
Brooks spent two seasons in the Premier League and found the net eight times and provided five assists in 39 games.
Asked by Football Insider whether he would be a good addition for Villa, Agbonlahor said: “Yes, I think he’s a good player.
“But I don’t really see Villa, to be honest, making many signings in the wide areas at the moment.
“Bertrand Traore has done really well since he’s come in, Anwar El Ghazi is on fire, Trezeguet is coming back from injury and Ross Barkley is coming back too.
“I just don’t see them looking to buy in that area. They’ve had a few injuries and they’ve coped.
“I don’t think Dean Smith will be bringing too many in to be honest because the squad he’s got there is perfect.”
Smith has selected five Villa players in every single Premier League game this season – Jack Grealish, Ollie Watkins, John McGinn, Matt Targett and Emiliano Martinez.
He has generally only made changes forced by injury and suspension with El Ghazi and Traore his current first-choice wingers.
