Peter Lovenkrands is elated after Newcastle gained promotion to the Premier League with an emphatic 4-1 win over Preston on Monday night.
Rafa Benitez saw his side confirm their promotion to England’s top flight at St. James’ Park, as goals from Christian Atsu and Matt Ritchie, as well as a brace from Ayoze Perez, secured victory.
Posting on his personal Twitter account after the match, former Toon forward Lovenkrands revealed his delight by stating “we are back” and claimed Newcastle “belong” in the top flight.

Benitez’s side started nervously on Twitter, despite taking the lead through Spaniard Perez before Preston target man Jordan Hugill equalised seven minutes later.
Chelsea loanee Christian Atsu restored Newcastle’s lead with a left-footed shot from the middle of the penalty area, after good work from Aleksander Mitrovic.
Preston’s task was made harder as Paul Gallagher decided to prevent a Toon goal by handling on the goal-line, which forced referee Andy Madley to show the Lilywhites attacker a red card.
Ritchie stepped up, finding the back of the net before Perez doubled his tally to take his overall number of goals this season to 11 in all competitions.
The win sees Benitez’s side secure an instant return to the Premier League, joining Chris Hughton’s Brighton in gaining promotion from the Championship.
Retired Denmark international Lovenkrands remains an avid fan of the Tyneside outfit, after spending three and a half years with the Toon. He scored 29 goals in 85 league and cup outings.
In other Newcastle news, fans reacted on Twitter to Karl Darlow’s omission from the side.
