Phil Foden lets down Man City after Savinho stuns Rio Ferdinand and Ally McCoist

Phil Foden left Ally McCoist frustrated on TNT Sports commentary after being unable to make the most of a brilliant piece of work from a Man City teammate against PSG.

Savinho has become an increasingly effective figure for Pep Guardiola’s side in recent weeks, and he showed it again in their Champions League clash with the French giants on Wednesday (22 January).

With 22 minutes on the clock, the winger produced an outrageous dummy and turn on the left touchline that completely took PSG full-back Achraf Hakimi down the line.

That allowed the Man City winger clear space down the right which he was able to run into before firing the ball to Foden on the edge of the PSG penalty area.

However, the England international’s touch was a heavy one which allowed the opposition defence to clear comfortably.

All of that left McCoist and Rio Ferdinand stunned by Savinho while commentating on TNT Sports, but less impressed with the touch from Foden.

While speaking on commentary as Savinho made his move, Ferdinand exclaimed (8.23pm): “Oh my gosh he’s left him for dead.”

After the move then ended with that heavy touch from Foden bringing an abrupt end to the opportunity, Ally McCoist said: “That was absolutely marvellous from Savinho there.”

Ferdinand responded: “He just sent him out the stadium, he’s got to pay to get back in now.”

McCoist then added: “That was brilliant, that was wow factor! The only disappointing thing was Foden’s touch when it came in to him.”

Phil Foden will be frustrated by Man City chance squandered vs PSG

Football Insider Verdict

After a poor start to the season, things had started to show signs of improvement for Foden, much like the rest of his side in recent weeks.

It will therefore have been a huge disappointment for the Man City not to build on that with another goal here.

With both of these teams still battling for a place in the knockout stages, it would have been a huge goal for Foden to put his side in front at that stage of the game.

As McCoist said though, the touch from the 24-year-old was a poor one that was well below par what he has shown he can produce so often in his career.

That will be even more frustrating for those of a Man City persuasion given how well Savinho had done in the build-up to create that opportunity.
