Phil Thompson delivers verdict on Tottenham squad, thinks this player could leave

By Will Butcher

Phil Thompson believes Tottenham’s players are showing quality beyond their years after they confirmed second place in the Premier League on Sunday.

Spurs earned a 2-1 victory over Manchester United on Sunday afternoon in their last ever match at White Hart Lane, as they move to Wembley Stadium while their new home is built.

Speaking on Sky Sports News’ Premier League Daily Show on Monday (10am), Thompson believes every player is firing on all cylinders despite being younger than their rivals.

Former Liverpool star Thompson also praised the work done by manager Mauricio Pochettino for extending a number of contracts, but is unsure over the future of 26-year-old Kyle Walker.

“They’re young players aren’t they. You look at this Tottenham team and you think it has got a chance, don’t you? You look at the overall squad, everyone looks really good for them,” Thompson said.

“As we’ve seen throughout the season, Spurs were very clever in securing a number of contract extensions. The only one is Kyle Walker, which is maybe the only player that could leave.”

The likes of Jan Vertonghen, Hugo Lloris, Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Danny Rose have all signed new contracts at White Hart Lane throughout the season, as Pochettino looks to keep the core of his squad together.

However, the future of England right-back Walker is in doubt after being displaced by Kieran Trippier in recent matches.

The London Evening Standard claims that Walker is willing to listen to offers as he is fully aware he can double his £70,000-a-week contract, with both Manchester clubs said to be keen.

With their best ever Premier League finish confirmed, Tottenham travel to Leicester on Thursday evening as they look to end the season on a high.
