Philippe Clement sack: Rangers boss ‘doomed’ at Ibrox after Dundee draw

Rangers manager Philippe Clement is now “doomed” after dropping more points in a draw with Dundee, according to Graham Spiers.

Clement has faced mounting pressure throughout the season, with Rangers sitting 15 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race.

The Gers’ struggles continued with a 1-1 draw against Dundee on January 9, following a similar result against Hibernian the previous week.

Supporters have grown increasingly vocal in demanding Clement’s dismissal, as the club’s gap for contention for the title grows larger.

However, sports journalist Graham Spiers, who writes for the Scottish edition of The Times, has defended the Belgian manager. Spiers described him as a “gifted” coach despite the challenges Rangers currently face.

He said on X: “Clement is doomed at Rangers. Too few people willing to see he is a gifted coach trying to rebuild at a chronically mismanaged club.

“So Clement gets sacked, the next sucker comes in, and he too is binned during a slump. On it goes, almost prescribed Rangers self-destruction…”

Rangers could find it tough to replace Philippe Clement

These results mean the club have now drawn three of their last five matches, leaving fans increasingly frustrated. Adding to the discontent is their dismal away form, with just three wins in 11 matches this season.

The players have previously demonstrated their ability, particularly in the Old Firm derby victory, where the team delivered an outstanding performance.

However, inconsistency appears to be the core issue derailing their campaign, and Clement has yet to find a solution to address it effectively.

Clement is under pressure at Rangers by the fans.

The 50-year-old Belgian is under contract at Ibrox until 2028, but mounting pressure and underwhelming results have cast a shadow over his tenure.

The January transfer window offers an opportunity for reinforcements, yet the club are expected to be constrained to loan signings due to financial limitations. Nevertheless, the coach must make the most of this window to bolster the squad and prevent the gap to Celtic from widening further.

While the league title seems increasingly out of reach, the focus may need to shift to securing silverware elsewhere.

The upcoming Scottish Cup clash with Fraserburgh and a massive Europa League tie against Manchester United later this month provide pivotal chances for Rangers to salvage their season and deliver some success to their loyal fanbase.

In other news, Rangers want to make this star player’s loan deal permanent.
