Phillips backs Celtic to sign Nisbet after striker deal confirmed
Celtic should move quick to sign Kevin Nisbet after missing out on Charlie Wyke, according to Kevin Phillips.
The 2000 European Golden Shoe winner, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, heaped praise on Nisbet, 24, and claimed he could settle into Ange Postecoglou’s side “with ease”.
The Hoops learned last Wednesday (7th July) that they had missed out on signing Charlie Wyke to Wigan Athletic.
Football Insider revealed that morning, the Latics saw off interest from Sunderland and Celtic to land the striker who scored 30 goals last season.
According to the Daily Mail (1st July), Ange Postecoglou’s side are interested in signing Kevin Nisbet, who is valued at £4million by Hibernian this summer.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if Celtic should move fast to secure the striker having missed out on Wyke, Phillips said:
“As soon as you miss out on your top target you have to go all in for your second one and I’m sure Celtic will do that.
“It is a bit like Emile Smith Rowe at Aston Villa. You do not want to mess about.
“You want to get your top targets signed and through the door as soon as possible so they can get involved with pre-season and be ready when that first game comes around.
“Nisbet is a top player and he has proven that he can score goals up there. He could settle into that side with ease. Act quick and get it done.”
