Phillips backs Leeds to sign Premier League ace after source's Casilla update
Kevin Phillips claims Leeds United will be able to make at least one first team addition once Kiko Casilla leaves the club.
The Sunderland legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest on the Spaniard’s future.
On 10th July, Football Insider revealed Casilla is expected to complete a move to La Liga outfit Elche in the coming days.
A Leeds source told this site the stopper has been given permission to skip training and complete a return to his homeland.
It is understood the Premier League club will continue to pay a significant portion of his £40,000-a-week wages.
Casilla made five appearances for Leeds last season as Illan Meslier kept him out of contention.

When asked if it was a good move to get Casilla’s wages off the books, Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, “Yeah, definitely.
“It frees up a wage to go and be spent elsewhere.
“Financially, the club and the manager can use that to go and get another Premier League player.
“I wouldn’t say two players because £40,000 is a standard Premier League wage at the moment.
“But it frees up a wage and Leeds can absolutely use that.”
“It is absolutely a bonus for Bielsa. It’s a good move for everyone involved at this point.”
Casilla joined Leeds in 2019 and made 62 appearances for the club with the majority of those coming in the Championship.
He helped Leeds get promoted but was largely sidelined after a racism incident involving Charlton Athletic forward Jonathan Leko in September 2019.
