Phillips 'wowed' by Leeds as he tips 'surprise' signing after Orta reveal

Kevin Phillips has tipped Leeds United to make a surprise signing this summer after Robin Koch’s transfer admission.

The Sunderland icon, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the defender’s recent comments regarding Leeds’ pursuit of him last summer.

Koch joined the Whites from Freiburg last summer and recently explained why he chose to move to Elland Road.

Koch told TalkSPORT, “They started really early, trying to get me here. I was in contact with Victor Orta.

“There was a presentation with how the team want me to play and why they need me. That was my biggest point for joining Leeds.”

Phillips was wowed by Koch’s comments and claimed Leeds’ have the ability to make a surprise signing this summer.

“It’s encouraging, isn’t it?” Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.

“There have been all sorts of problems with people in the background at Leeds over the last few years.

“It’s great to know they have good advisors, they can get someone in a room and convince them to sign.

“That’s great news. To see them on the pitch can also convince those players.

“It’s encouraging ahead of the summer and to see who they go for and if they can be convinced to sign.

“They might surprise a few people where they sign a player and you say ‘wow, I didn’t see that happening’.”

Leeds are looking to finish the season strongly after hammering Burnley 4-0 on Saturday.

The result left Leeds in 10th position and can’t be caught even if Aston Villa win their game in hand.
