Phillips claims 56 is all but sealed at Rangers after 'great news' on Morelos
Kevin Phillips insists it would be a huge boost for Rangers if Alfredo Morelos decides to stay at Ibrox this summer.
The Sunderland legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to a new claim on the striker’s future.
On 18th July, the Daily Record reported Morelos has not asked for a transfer or indicated he wants to leave Ibrox.
On 26th June, Football Insider revealed Rangers have told Porto that they want £13million for their star striker this summer.
The Colombian has a contract with Rangers that runs until 2023 and talks over an extension have failed to get off the ground this year.
Phillips is in no doubt of the significance if Morelos has committed to Rangers for another year.

“If that’s the case and it’s true then it’s great news for the club,” Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.
“He’s got so much quality. He might cause you a few issues but if he produces on the pitch it’s a great boost.
“It’s a boost for the supporters and for Stevie Gerrard because if he goes you have to replace him.
“That’s difficult and it costs money so if he does stay it’s really good and he’ll help them win the league again this season.”
Morelos joined Rangers from HJK Helsinki in 2017 and has found the back of the net 94 times in 182 appearances so far.
Last season saw him net 17 times as the Gers romped to the Premiership title.
