Kevin Phillips has hailed Son Heung-min “one of the best players in the world” after Tottenham offered the attacker a lucrative new deal.
The 2000 European Golden Shoe winner, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, is adamant that the 28-year-old deserves to be placed among the highest earners at the London club.
Football Insider revealed on Friday that Spurs had offered the Korean a blockbuster new contract worth £200,000-a-week plus performance-related bonuses.
Son still has three years remaining on his current deal having penned an extension in the summer of 2018.
The forward’s eight appearances this season have yielded a remarkable nine goals and four assists.
When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on Son’s contract development, Phillips said: “He is fully deserving of an improved deal. 100 per cent.
“I have been a massive fan of his for a long time. On current evidence is one of the best players in the world right now.
“He seems like a genuinely nice guy. I know how had a little dustup with Huge Lloris in the tunnel but that just shows that he cares. He always plays with a smile on his face and his football ability – wow.
“You would be a fool not to tie him down to a new contract. Put him up there with the high earners because he is undoubtedly one of the best.
“If you take him and Kane out of that Tottenham lineup they are a completely different team. The relationship between those two at the moment is one of the best in world football.
“I absolutely love watching them play so it is brilliant to see that he is sorting a new deal out.”
