Phillips reveals 'shock' as Crystal Palace predicted to swoop for Origi after Liverpool reveal
Kevin Phillips is “shocked” to hear Liverpool received no concrete offers for Divock Origi in the summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Sunderland and England striker said he expected Crystal Palace to have made a move for the 26-year-old.
As quoted by Sky Sports, Jurgen Klopp revealed he was surprised by the lack of interest in his “sensational” centre-forward in the transfer window.
The comments came after Origi was handed a rare start in Liverpool’s 3-2 victory over AC Milan in the Champions League last Wednesday.
He has one year remaining on his contract at Anfield.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on Klopp’s comments, Phillips said: “I’m shocked to hear that.

“From the outside looking in, I think he wanted to go in the summer. His time is up there I think.
“There were so many clubs in need of a striker, the likes of Palace before they got Odsonne Edouard in from Celtic. They were crying out for a striker and Origi would’ve been a great option. I cannot understand why they wouldn’t try and get him.
“He has Premier League and Champions League experience. He has proven that he is a very good player.
“I’m very surprised that no one came in. I’m sure there were enquiries but the face that there was no concrete offers… It is a strange one.
“He has not been involved much this season and then, bang, starting against AC Milan in the Champions League. It was bizarre. Only Klopp can answer why.”
