Phillips: Leeds will be massively 'worried' after Meslier reveal
Kevin Phillips has claimed Leeds United’s defensive record this season will be “a big, big worry” for Marcelo Bielsa.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Sunderland and England striker said the current rate at which the Whites concede chances is “not good enough”.
Leeds United have conceded 12 goals in five games this season – only Newcastle and Norwich have worse records in the Premier League.
However, the Whites’ defensive woes cannot be attributed to Illan Meslier, who has made six more saves (22) than any other goalkeeper in the division this season. (Premier League)
Marcelo Bielsa’s side are winless in their five league outings this term.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of Leeds’ defence, Phillips said: “It’s a big, big worry.

“You cannot go through the season conceding that many chances. You simply cannot continue like that.
“It is an area that I did not see as a concern at the start of the season given how they finished the last. I was questioning whether they had enough goals in their side to kick on and get a European spot this year.
“They have had players moving about at the back which is difficult but the amount of goals they’ve conceded already is definitely concerning. They have conceded far too many goals and that is with Meslier having made the most saves in the league. It’s not good enough.
“I’m sure they are working on it on the training ground.”
