Phillips makes ‘incredible’ Antonio claim after West Ham reveal

Kevin Phillips has heaped praise on the “phenomenal” Michail Antonio after West Ham manager David Moyes claimed there is more to come from the striker.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the 2000 European Golden Shoe winner credited Moyes for the “incredible” transformation of Antonio, 31, in recent seasons.

Speaking ahead of the trip to Wolves, Moyes told Football.London that Antonio “can play better” and is expected to “step up” his game between now and the end of the season.

However, Antonio struggled to make an impact at Molineux on Saturday as the Hammers slipped to a 1-0 defeat.

Phillips is a big admirer of the Jamaica international who is “unplayable at times”.

“You have to give a lot of credit to the player,” he told Football Insider.

“What he has done over the past few seasons has been nothing short of incredible. It’s phenomenal how he’s adapted his game.

“Moyes has to take a lot of credit for his improvement as well. People are talking about Antonio being good enough for one of the so-called top six. That is how good a job Moyes has done with him.

“Ultimately, you cannot speak highly enough of Antonio. He is such a crucial player for West Ham. Without him in the side, they’r not the same team.

“When he’s fit, blimey, he’s a real handful. He is a player I really enjoy watching. He’s unplayable at times.”
