Phillips predicts Aston Villa will sign 'brilliant' Abraham for club-record fee
It makes sense for Aston Villa to sign Tammy Abraham this summer because of his history with the club.
That’s according to former Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Abraham’s future.
As revealed by Football Insider, Villa have set aside £40million and are ready to lay the groundwork of a record-breaking deal to re-sign the 23-year-old.
Abraham spent the 2018/19 season on loan at Villa with his 26 goals helping the club achieve promotion back to the Premier League.
He has seen his game time limited since Thomas Tuchel arrived at Stamford Bridge with Timo Werner preferred up front.
It is understood that Abraham’s future at Stamford Bridge is up in the air amid doubts from Tuchel.

Phillips claims Abraham can ease Ollie Watkins’ burden as the main goalscorer in Dean Smith’s side.
“Tammy did brilliantly at Villa and he is [brilliant],” Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.
“Villa need another striker to share the burden of Watkins. He’s had a great season but second season syndrome next year, it’s always tougher.
“Competition is great and Tammy knows the club and was successful there. He’s getting overlooked at Chelsea so it makes sense. It’s a sensible option and I can see it happening.”
Abraham started the season in prolific form as Frank Lampard gave him plenty of game time in the Premier League and Champions League group stage.
He has 12 goals and six assists to his name in 36 appearances for Chelsea this season.
