Phillips shares one-word verdict on potential Kane U-turn after key Tottenham reveal

Harry Kane will still want to quit Tottenham this summer if Paulo Fonseca is appointed as the new manager.

That is the view of ex-European golden shoe winner Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Kane’s situation as Spurs close in on a new boss.

Alasdair Gold of Football.London reported today (11 June) that Fonseca is set to be appointed as Jose Mourinho’s successor.

Football Insider revealed on June 8 that Fabio Paritici is set to become the club’s director of football and he will be in charge of the club’s transfer and contract negotiations.

This site broke the news back in April that Kane had told friends he wants to quit Spurs this summer.

Asked whether the arrival of Fosenca could persuade the England captain to change his mind, Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs: “No”.

He added: “I’ve said all along that getting the new manager is key to even having a chance of getting Harry Kane to stay.

“It’s nothing against Fosenca but if I’m Harry Kane, would that really persuade me to stay? It probably wouldn’t.

“But Harry Kane has probably already made his mind up at this time anyway to go.

“So I don’t think that will have any bearing on it.”

Kane ended the season as the Premier League’s top scorer and creator with 23 goals and 14 assists.

He is currently away with England as they prepare for this summer’s European Championships.
