Phillips tells Aston Villa to sign 'cracking' Gilmour after intriguing reported update
Kevin Phillips insists Billy Gilmour would be an excellent signing for Aston Villa as he reportedly looks for a loan move.
The former Villa hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims the Chelsea midfielder just needs to play football.
On 8th June, The Sun claimed Gilmour is considering a loan move next season.
The Scotland international has only seen limited game time under Thomas Tuchel since he took over from Frank Lampard in January.
Gilmour, 20, only made 11 senior appearances for the Blues last season though he did pick up a Champions League winner’s medal.
He signed for Chelsea in 2017, leaving Rangers for a “significant fee”. [Sky Sports]

He stole headlines in 2020 as he dominated against Liverpool’s midfield in an FA Cup win at Stamford Bridge.
Phillips claims Gilmour could work well with Villa new boy Emi Buendia if the club can secure his services for next season.
“He’s a cracking player,” Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.
“He had a lightning start to his career and made the headlines. Then it went a bit quiet.
“He just needs to play now, we’ve seen what he can do. If he wants to go to Villa, he would fit in.
“He’s got good work rate and if Villa could get hold of him and play him with Buendia. That would be two great signings.”
Villa loaned Ross Barkley from Chelsea last season but the move didn’t work out as planned.
After an electric start, Barkley picked up an injury and never recovered his early-season form.
