'If Leeds come knocking, he'll want to leave' - Phillips tips centre-back to jump at United move
Kevin Phillips has claimed Middlesbrough defender Daniel Ayala would jump at the chance to join Leeds United.
The former Sunderland and West Brom striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, is in no doubt the 29-year-old would accept an offer from the Championship leaders.
According to the Daily Star, the Whites are keen to add the former Liverpool centre-half this summer, irrespective of whether they achieve promotion.
Phillips believes a move to Elland Road is highly possible as it would not present major geographical issues for the Spaniard and the timing could be ideal.
United have huge pulling power following the transformation of the team under Marcelo Bielsa in the last two season.
“I think Ayala is a good player,” Phillips told Football Insider. “He has had injury problems this year and Middlesborough have struggled.

“It might be an option for him to move on now, he has been there a few years and this could be an option to reignite his career.
“Of course, logistically, a lot of Boro players are not too far from Leeds really. That could work.
“I could see that happening, definitely. If Leeds come knocking I am certain he would want to leave. A good servant to Boro but I am sure he would opt for that.”
Ayala, who has made 25 appearances for Middlesbrough this campaign, has missed part of the season with an ankle injury.
