Rangers midfielder Bongani Zungu may have played his last game for the club, according to Kevin Phillips.
The 2000 European Golden Shoe winner, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, tipped the club to “come down hard” on the 28-year-old after he attended a party with four of his teammates last weekend.
This site exclusively broke the news on 14 February that Rangers had launched an internal probe into an incident which saw five of their players break lockdown rules to attend an illegal party.
Gers boss Steven Gerrard has since named the players involved as Bongani Zungu, 28, Nathan Patterson, 19, Calvin Bassey, 21, Dapo Mebude, 19, and Brian Kinnear, 20.
Club chiefs have discussed plans which could see them all suspended until the end of the season, such a decision would see Zungu banned for the rest of his loan spell at Ibrox.
When asked by Football Insider if the South African international had played his last game for the club, Phillips said: “It looks like it.
“It is absolute craziness from the five of them. When you are in this profession and you are a high profile player you should know that it only takes one photo to expose you. It is ludicrous and crazy so I hope the club come down hard.
“They have jeopardised the people around them that are doing everything right. This has a big knock-on effect.
“The last thing Stevie wants right now is to upset the apple cart. The title is pretty much wrapped up but you still do not want any bad energy.
“I am sure these boys will be sorry for what they did. They knew what they were doing though. They knew it was wrong. I expect the club to come down hard on them.”
