Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg set for Tottenham axe after source's 'statement' reveal - pundit

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will have to settle for a place on the Tottenham bench in the 2022-23 season, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker delivered his verdict as Tottenham close in on the “statement” signing of Yves Bissouma.

A Spurs source told Football Insider on Wednesday (15 June) that they have agreed a £25million deal with Brighton & Hove Albion for Bissouma who is set for a medical before the end of the week.

Brighton initially placed a £40million price tag on the 25-year-old but Spurs were able to negotiate the price down.

Asked for his verdict on the signing, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Spurs are making a statement.

“Bissouma will walk straight into that defensive-midfield role. Then you’ve got Bentancur next to him. Maybe Hojbjerg will lose his place. Bentancur was his signing and so is Bissouma.

“With that 5-2-3 formation, you’ve got two top midfielders and Spurs will be a problem next season.

“Djed Spence gives them an option as well. Spurs have always had the top young up-and-coming right-backs like Kyle Walker and Kyle Naughton. At a young age, they’ve got hold of them.

“Spurs are going to be a threat next season.”

Bissouma has just a year left to run on his Brighton contract and has proven himself as a top Premier League player in the last four seasons.

The Mali international will end his Seagulls career with six goals and three assists in 123 appearances across all competitions.
