Pierre-Michel Lasogga: This is what shocked me after signing for Leeds
Pierre-Michel Lasogga has admitted that he was shocked by the attendances that Leeds United and other clubs are able to draw in the Championship.
Lasogga, 26, moved to Elland Road on loan in the summer transfer window from Bundesliga club Hamburg.
His form in England has been patchy with eight goals in 21 appearances across all competitions for Leeds, however in the last few fixtures, the German has started to become more and more of an influential player.
On arriving in the UK, Lasogga admitted he was taken aback by how many people attend second-tier fixtures, saying that in Germany’s 2.Bundesliga you would be lucky to get a fraction as to what turns out at Elland Road every other week.
“I was surprised when I came here because in the second league in Germany you get 5 or 10 thousand,” he said, as quoted by LeedsLive on Friday [0136pm].
“In England you have smaller stadiums and it’s nice to play here because the fans are so close to the pitch. It’s a special time for me.”
Lasogga has scored three goals in his last four Championship appearances for Leeds and he will no doubt be looking to add to that on Sunday when United take on Bristol City at Elland Road.
This weekends clash will be Paul Heckingbottom’s first home game in charge of the Whites since replacing Thomas Christiansen in the hot-seat.
In his first match at the helm last week, the former Barnsley manager oversaw a 2-1 defeat to Sheffield United, in which Lasogga scored his eighth goal of the campaign.
