PL club join Celtic in three-horse race for available English attacker - report
By Harvey Byrne
Premier League outfit Southampton have joined Celtic and Nice in a three-horse race for Manchester City attacker Patrick Roberts, according to a report.
The Mirror have claimed on their website that the three European sides are “battling” to land the 20-year-old England Under-20 international for the 2017-18 campaign.
It is said that City themselves have made the right-winger available and are willing to loan him out for next season.
It is also detailed that Roberts is open to joining Nice, while a move to another Premier League team may be too good to turn down.
But, Celtic are also boosted by the fact that Roberts has already spent 18 months at the club as well as working with current Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers and he may look to work with a manager who he knows will play him at this stage of his career.

The youngster played 60 times in total during his time at Parkhead, returning 17 goals and 21 assists and he helped the club win the Premiership twice, League Cup and Scottish Cup during his stay.
Football Insider verdict:
If Celtic have any chance of signing Roberts this summer then they must ensure they are the club that capture him. Of course Premier League teams and Nice are able to offer City more money to take Roberts on loan. But, Celtic have a personal affinity for the player and surely that gives them an advantage in any potential deal. The Hoops themselves have added wide attacker Jonny Hayes to their side this summer, but Roberts, who has already proven to be a success at the club would surely help the Glasgow giants to their seventh consecutive league title alongside helping them to become a force once more in England.
In other Celtic transfer news, assistant manager Chris Davies also discussed Roberts on Monday afternoon.
