PL rivals believe Tottenham first teamer is open to joining them (not Walker) – report

Premier League giants Manchester United believe that Tottenham first teamer Eric Dier is open to joining them this summer, according to a report.

The Daily Mail have claimed on their website on Saturday that the Old Trafford club are keen to bring in the 23-year-old, who they also think is willing to make the switch to Manchester with Jose Mourinho’s side looking to play him in his favoured central midfield role alongside a higher wage.

However, Spurs themselves will not put a price on Dier with the north London club having no intentions of selling the 19-time capped England international.

It is detailed that Mauricio Pochettino will not want to listen to any bids for Dier, who played a frequent role in Tottenham’s second placed finish last season.

But, Spurs’ reluctance to offer wages higher than £100,000-a-week is also said to be causing some concerns around their impressive squad, with clubs in the Premier League such as Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea prepared to spend a lot more.

Dier’s teammate Kyle Walker is also a target of a Premier League rival with the Mirror reporting earlier in the week that Manchester City would open talks with Spurs in the coming days.

However, despite Manchester United’s beliefs Dier is still contracted to Tottenham until 2021 and Pochettino will be keen to keep a player who turned out in 48 matches in all competitions last season.

Football Insider verdict:

Dier is a dependable member of the Tottenham team, but he can also be improved upon. There are even some thoughts that he is not even good enough for a club such as Manchester United and that they are just looking at him to make up their English player quota. The player is neither an impressive defensive midfielder or centre-back and while he does offer versatility Spurs may be better bringing in two players for each position with the money gained from Dier’s sale.
