'Player of the season' - Exclusive: Paul Robinson lauds newly-available Newcastle man

Paul Robinson has claimed it will be “a huge boost” for Newcastle United if Martin Dubravka is available for selection when the season recommences.

The former Spurs and Leeds United keeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 31-year-old has been worth 10 points this campaign after numerous “outstanding” performances.

Dubravka was ruled out for a month at the beginning of March having suffered a knee injury but has said he expects to be fully fit if and when the season restarts.

The Slovakia international has been ever-present in the Premier League this season, keeping nine clean sheets.

The goalkeeper committed his long-term future to St. James last year, putting pen to paper on a new six-year deal on Tyneside.

Robinson claimed Dubravka has been the Magpies’ best player so far this campaign.

“He has been outstanding for Newcastle,” he told Football Insider.

“Initially, he signed on loan but they signed him at the first option they had. It was a position that they needed to address.

“He has been worth about 10 points for them and for me, he has been their player of the season.

“Although the break has not been good it has given the injured players a chance to get fit and get back when it all starts again. It would be a huge boost for Newcastle to have him fit and playing. He looks fit and strong.”

Spurs are perhaps the club that stands to benefit most from the unscheduled mid-season break with Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Moussa Sissoko all in lines for returns once the season resumes.

Football Insider understands the governing bodies are preparing for a mid-June restart, provided it is safe to do so.
