'Please god no' – West Ham fans fume as reliable journalist posts update on manager hunt

West Ham fans are fuming on social media as a reliable journalist revealed that the Hammers hunt to replace David Moyes as the club’s manager had “escalated” with Claudio Ranieri the latest name in the frame.

Only early on Thursday, Sam Inkersole, a leading journalist for all things involving the Hammers, posted a cryptic tweet stating simply, “Ahem,” alongside a post on the social media platform from FC Nantes, announcing that the Italian would be leaving his post at the Ligue 1 side.

Later on Thursday Inkersole added another Twitter message to his own thread which this time said, “Well this has escalated quickly.”

The post comes after the Hammers had been linked with Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez in what would seemingly be, by all accounts, a much more popular appointment than the former Leicester City manager.

And that despite the fact that against all the odds, the 66-year-old took the Foxes to the pinnacle of the Premier League and their first ever top-flight title win.

However, in order to bag Benitez, West Ham would first have to trigger a reported release clause of £6million – a fact which may put off the notoriously tight board.

Reactions from Hammers fans were overwhelmingly against the notion that Inkersole was alluding to Ranieri taking over from Moyes.
