Poch to hold talks with Levy as new Tottenham dilemma looms - confirmed

Mauricio Pochettino will hold talks with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy amid growing fears about the Rochdale pitch ahead of the FA Cup fifth round clash between the two clubs.

Spurs’ win over Newport at Wembley on Wednesday night set up the visit to Spotland later this month but the state of the League One club’s pitch is causing major concern for Pochettino and his backroom team.

The surface has been badly impacted by the weather and, despite the club’s attempts to patch up the pitch up with sand, there is the stark possibility of the ground causing injury.

Pochettino has revealed he will discuss the issue with Levy, although there is no suggestion at this stage that the Premier League club will push for a change of venue.

“Yes, I saw the pitch. I think you are going to struggle, no? But not only us. Them, too,’ Pochettino said, as quoted by Football London.

“I think the FA need to assess how the pitch is and then to take a decision about if it’s good for the FA Cup, good for the players, good for the teams to play in this type of pitch, in that condition that I think doesn’t help football.

“I don’t know why what happened, happened with this pitch but it’s true that the picture [I have seen] – I think it’s not a pitch in a condition to play football.

“I think it’s about providing a safe place to play for the players. I think it’s a big risk to play in a pitch like this – if the pictures I have seen give an accurate impression of the state of it.

“If it is like I saw in the pictures, I think you cannot play football on it. That is my point of view.

“I am going to speak with the chairman today in the afternoon to try to find a solution with the club, to see what we can do.”

Spurs will be on home turf this weekend as they prepare to host Arsenal at Wembley in the 12.30pm kick-off on Saturday which will provide a litmus test of the two sides as they aim for a top-four Premier League finish.
