Pochettino identifies prime Tottenham target for sensational swap deal - report

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has identified Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale as the prime target for a swap deal if the European giants choose to make a swoop for striker Harry Kane, according to a report.

Spanish publication Don Balon claim on their website that the Welsh winger is seen as an acceptable replacement for the 24-year-old forward by Pochettino, with the report stating that Bale is the only man he would be interested in entertaining what would be a sensational swap deal for.

The 28-year-old would be making a return to the club for which he made 203 appearances and scored 56 goals before departing to the Bernabeu in a then world record breaking deal.

His current campaign has been plagued by injury, which has limited him to just 10 appearances across all competitions, netting three times.

Kane meanwhile has been in outstanding form in front of goal, with 18 strikes in 20 appearances across all competitions, including six in five Champions League outings.

This report really should be taken with a healthy dosage of salt, with it bordering on the fanciful. There is very little chance that Pochettino would be willing to let Harry Kane go and Gareth Bale just does not fit the mould of what they would need if he were to depart. There would have to be a cash incentive in addition to Bale for Spurs to even consider letting Kane leave the club, and even then it would be a huge risk trying to replace his goal scoring boots. There may be something in this, but it is a scenario which will be unlikely to come to fruition any time soon.
