Mauricio Pochettino has finally started to talk up his new signing Lucas Moura and revealed that he thinks he will bring “explosive” power to the Spurs side.
That’s in direct contrast to what he said when Moura first arrived in a £26million deadline day deal from Paris Saint-Germain, saying he wasn’t excited by the deal.
“No, no. Exciting? No,” Pochettino said, as quoted by ESPN.
“Of course he’s an exciting name for our fans. He came from PSG, a big club. But it’s different to signing Neymar, Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.”
Well it seems like Pochettino might have been playing down the impact that he hopes his new man can make.
He hinted that Moura will get his first start for the club against Rochdale in the FA Cup on Sunday, after Spurs fans got a brief cameo in the 2-2 draw with Juventus on Tuesday.
And he also hinted at the qualities that Moura is going to bring to his side.
“He has the capacity one vs one, he’s so explosive and fast, he’s strong”, Pochettino said to Football.London.
“He has some qualities that will be good for the team,” he added.
It’s always important for new players to get off to a fast start at their new club and an FA Cup game against lower league opposition is the perfect place for Moura to prove that he can cut it in England – and not just against elite opposition.
Pochettino is still keen to urge caution and for fans not to expect too much too soon, but he has finally let slip why he signed him and his remarks should get Tottenham fans hugely excited.
