Pochettino reveals surprise Tottenham approach ahead of Manchester City showdown

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that him and his players are excited at the prospect of coming up against a Manchester City side in such red hot form.

Pep Guardiola’s side have been imperious in the Premier League this season, going unbeaten through the campaign and are currently on a 15 game winning streak, breaking the Football League record for most consecutive victories with their 4-0 thrashing of Swansea on Wednesday night.

Their impressive run of form this season has seen them open up an 11 point gap at the top of the table, and are 18 points ahead of Tottenham in fourth ahead of Saturday’s showdown.

However, while Spurs fans may be wishing they were playing anyone else this weekend, Pochettino has surprisingly revealed he is delighted to be taking on such a talented side, and believes that his squad share his excitement at the chance to prove themselves against City.

He was quoted by football.london as stating:”I am so positive and in football always you need to think positive if you want to win.

“We are going to play with, this season, the best team in England one of the best teams in Europe.

“I am so excited to play (City), because I love to play against teams and managers like Guardiola, the best.

“I am the opposite side. I am so positive, so motivated and so happy that we are going to play a team that is in its best.”

Spurs come into Saturday’s showdown at the Etihad Stadium off the back of a 2-0 win over a struggling Brighton side on Wednesday, making it two wins from two after their thrashing of Stoke City last weekend.

The last meeting between Spurs and Manchester City came back in January of this year, as Pochettino’s men came back from behind twice, thanks to goals from Heung-min Son and Dele Alli, to secure a 2-2 away from home.

In other Tottenham news, Pochettino has revealed one man was fuming after the win over Brighton.
