Pochettino: Kane stops this Tottenham star from getting credit he deserves
Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino believes attacking midfielder Son Heung-min does not get the credit he deserves because of striker Harry Kane.
The 25-year-old has been in fine form for Spurs this season, scoring five goals and delivering three assists in his last seven appearances in all competitions.
The South Korean also became the highest-scoring Asian player in Premier League history earlier in the campaign, but he has often been overlooked due to the brilliance of Kane.
Pochettino compared Son to a player at Real Madrid or Barcelona whose quality is overlooked because of the goal-scoring prowess of Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi.
“It’s like a player next to Messi or Ronaldo who deserves a lot of credit,” said Pochettino, as quoted by the Telegraph.
“When you are next to Harry Kane, who scores and scores and all that he achieves, it is normal that the focus is more on Kane or on Messi or Ronaldo than Son.
“It’s true that maybe he does not get the headlines of Harry and other players but it is good to recognise him. He is a great guy and a very good professional.”
Pochettino would go on to heap praise on Son for his consistent performances on the pitch and his work in training.
Kane has been in exceptional goal scoring form for Tottenham this season and recently broke Alan Shearer’s record for most the Premier League goals in a calendar year with 39 goals in 36 games in 2017.
The 24-year-old has scored six goals in his last two matches for Spurs with back-to-back Premier League hat-tricks against Burnley and Southampton.
Tottenham face Swansea in Premier League action at the Liberty Stadium this evening and will be looking to move above top-four rivals Arsenal in the table.
