'So important' - Pochettino names quality Tottenham players must show against Burnley

Mauricio Pochettino has insisted his players will respond to the defeat at Manchester City last weekend, when they face Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday, and said “belief is so important”.

Spurs were totally outplayed at the Eithad Stadium as the Premier League leaders ran out 4-1 winners, to open up 21-point gap over their opponents.

With their title challenge already over, Pochettino’s side must turn their attention to the top-four and the crucial game with sixth-placed Burnley, who are one place and one point above them in the table.

Sean Dyche’s side have won six of their last nine Premier League matches and are unbeaten in their last three and will go into the game with Tottenham full of confidence.

However, Spurs boss Pochettino insists his players will respond to the loss at the Etihad Stadium and says they must keep believing in themselves to get their season back on track.

“The reaction will be good,” said Pochettino, as quoted by the Evening Standard.

“The team trust each other and what we are doing. Always the ambition is to be as high as possible and we know we need to win in this busy period.

“We need to keep going. Belief is so important, to change the dynamic, win games and be close to the top four. It is a long way until the end of the season.”

Spurs have suffered a dip in form in the Premier League which has seen them fall form title contenders to seventh place in the table.

Pochettino and his players now face a serious battle with the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Spurs are currently four points behind fourth-placed Liverpool who are in action against fifth-placed Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium tomorrow night.
