Pochettino tells hilarious story on how he fished Tottenham chief Daniel Levy out of river

Mauricio Pochettino has retold a hilarious story about how he once had to fish Daniel Levy out of a river after he fell from a boat while rafting.

While on a team-bonding exercise on the Manso River in Pochettino’s homeland of Argentina, seven members of the Spurs staff, as well as a guide, went white-water rafting which resulted in a brilliant story.

Spurs boss Pochettino has now been quoted by the Hotspur Related official Twitter account of telling the story of how he jokingly demanded a new contract from Levy before he would haul him back into the boat.

“Suddenly, the boat flipped and several members were flung out. Jesus went flying, joined by Daniel Levy, Toni and Miguel,” said Pochettino.

“I had promised the chairman that I would fish him out if he fell in.”

“I saw Daniel in the water, looking at me, a picture of seriousness.”

“I grabbed his hands and heaved him in. Then we joked about how I should have demanded a new contract.”

“Saying to Daniel, either you double our salary or you are not getting into the boat.”

Pochettino and Levy clearly share a strong relationship at the North London club, especially with them overseeing such a remarkable rise in stature over the past few seasons.

Spurs are looking good to qualify for the knock-out stages of the Champions League this season after promising results over European giants Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid.

They could also get their Premier League title bid back on track with a win against Liverpool at Wembley on Sunday in their next outing.

Manchester United surprisingly lost to Huddersfield on Saturday, meaning that Spurs can move level on points with the second-placed side with three points against Liverpool this weekend.

However history is not on Tottenham’s side, having failed to win in their last 10 meetings with the Merseyside club, losing on seven of them occasions.

In other Tottenham news, Real Madrid are plotting a move this yet another Spurs man after the club’s draw at the Bernabeu earlier this week.
