Portsmouth, Preston and Oxford race to sign Mickel Miller – sources
Portsmouth, Preston and Oxford United have registered their interest in signing Plymouth Argyle defender Mickel Miller this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
Miller is out of contract with Argyle at the end of June and can leave the club on a free after enjoying a solid season in the Championship.
The Pilgrims have offered the 28-year-old a new deal to extend his stay at Home Park, but the two parties are yet to reach an agreement, opening up the door for rival clubs to secure his signature.
Championship newcomers Portsmouth and Oxford are joined by fellow second-tier side Preston in monitoring the Croydon-born wing-back’s situation ahead of his contract expiring next month.
Mickel Miller could join Coventry or Sheffield Wednesday
Miller endured an injury-hit first season with Plymouth in 2022/23 after making just 12 appearances in their promotion-winning campaign.
But the attacking wing-back, who can also operate on the left wing, bounced back to play 34 times for the club this season as they secured Championship football for another year.
Despite only starting 19 games throughout the campaign for the Pilgrims, he managed to pick up 12 yellow cards.
The defender’s only goal of the season came in a 2-2 draw against Coventry City in February after coming off the bench as a second-half substitute.
Home Park chiefs are now looking to secure Miller’s services for at least another year as negotiations are ongoing with him over a new deal.

A potential move to either Portsmouth, Preston or Oxford would offer him the chance to remain in the Championship next season.
Portsmouth and Oxford both secured promotion to the second tier, while Preston fell short in their promotion bid.
